The Alexanderplatz TV Tower, also known as the Fernsehturm, is a prominent landmark located in the Mitte district of Berlin, Germany. Standing at a height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany and one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.
Constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), the tower was intended to showcase the technological prowess and modernity of socialist East Berlin. It was designed by architects Fritz Dieter, Günter Franke, and Werner Ahrendt.
The tower features a rotating observation deck and a restaurant at a height of 207 meters, offering panoramic views of Berlin and its surroundings. The sphere at the top of the tower houses various technical equipment for broadcasting television signals.
Today, the Alexanderplatz TV Tower is not only a popular tourist attraction but also serves as a functional telecommunications tower for radio and television broadcasts. It has become an iconic symbol of Berlin's skyline and remains an important part of the city's architectural heritage.
